Who we work with

Fortis Medical works with senior medical professionals, business owners, successful individuals and their families. People whose finances have become complicated to the point where professional advice is needed.

Medical professionals

The complexity involved in financial planning for a successful medical professional has increased almost unimaginably. Much of this relates to the ever-increasing level of tax and complexity involved with even “sensible” financial planning.

The changes to the NHS pension scheme, and the taxation of pensions in general are the most obvious example of this – but it’s been wider and deeper than that. The pressures of the NHS and alongside a rapid evolution in the private practice market has meant medical careers are more varied than ever.

NHS pensions, private practice income and business ownership often create financial challenges that require specialist knowledge. We help clients understand such complexities, providing advice that reflects the realities of a medical career.

We advise senior medical professionals, including:

  • NHS Consultants
  • Private practitioners
  • Clinical academics
  • Medical business owners
  • Doctors approaching retirement

Business owners and professionals

We advise business owners and senior professionals with complicated finances. Many clients are managing personal finances alongside business interests, investments, retirement planning and family considerations. We’ve found that busy people simply do not have the time to manage their finances themselves. This increases the risk of lost opportunities and mistakes.

Understanding your options helps you make better financial decisions, while coordination across financial planning, tax and accountancy drives better outcomes for our clients.

We advise many professionals and business people, including:

  • Business owners
  • Company directors
  • Partners and shareholders
  • Senior professionals
  • Individuals preparing for retirement

Our fees

Many clients we speak to find it hard to get a clear picture of what they’re paying for, often because fees are spread across several parties and complex structures. We think it should be simpler than that.

Good financial advice should cost good money, but you should be receiving exceptional value and you should fully understand the overall fees you will pay.

At Fortis we are focused on having a fair and transparent approach to charging and we work extremely hard to ensure that the total cost of investing for a client is markedly lower than the industry average.

The majority of our clients require a full financial planning service and regular ongoing review. This is typically suitable for clients with assets over £500,000. However, this may also be suitable for clients who have a high level of financial complexity on an ongoing basis.

Where appropriate, we also provide one-off “technical services” typically for those with NHS pensions who wish to understand their pension benefits and the current legislative environment, for example the pension annual allowance and lump sum allowance.
